Trading Spaces
Fredericksburg, VA, July 26, 2002
— No, we’re not referring to the popular home decorating show where friends exchange homes for the weekend and redecorate with the help of an interior designer. We’re talking about two women from Fredericksburg, Virginia who are trading careers. Beth McKinney, who formerly ran Evening Thyme, a personal chef service, is now going back to school to earn her master’s degree so that she can become a teacher. Former Stafford County teacher, Dawn Schick, is beginning a personal chef business called the Personal Chef of Fredericksburg.
The two ladies lived only blocks apart while engaging in their first careers but never knew each other. They were just neighbors exchanging polite hellos. Although McKinney no longer lives in the same neighborhood with Schick, they have discovered that they have a lot in common. The two recently met via a mutual acquaintance, and a frenzy of idea exchanges began. McKinney graciously shared recipes and tips of the trade with Schick, who in turn, is sharing her ‘teacher closet’ with McKinney. Both ladies share fond memories of their past careers and a passion for their new ones.
Chef Dawn Schick is a member of the American Personal Chef Association and can be contacted at 804-353-4334 or at

. You can also visit her web site,
http://www.personalchefofredericksburg.com, for more information. Her service is designed for busy people who are looking for a way to spend more time with their families, without sacrificing healthy, delicious meals. After meeting with a potential client and getting a menu approved, Schick does all of the grocery shopping and prepares 5 different entrees with sides in the client’s kitchen. She does all of this in 6 – 7 hours and fills the client’s fridge full of freshly prepared meals and leaves the kitchen spotless. COOKING UP TIME FOR BUSY MOMS
Fredericksburg, VA, July 26, 2002 — If you find yourself so busy shuttling your children from practices, birthday parties, and recitals that you don’t have any time to prepare healthy, well-balanced meals for your family, we may have a way that you can ‘cook some time’ back into your day. A new service is in the area, Personal Chef of Fredericksburg, and the owner, Dawn Schick, may be just the one to help you with your dilemma. She can save you about 15 hours per week.
Schick meets with each client to determine their specific dietary needs. Then menus are agreed upon and a cooking day is selected. “I shop for all the food, come into the client’s home every other week and cook about 5 - 10 meals. Then I fresh freeze them and clean everything up. I leave nothing behind but delicious smells and great food,” says Schick. The meal plans are reasonably priced too, as low as $15 per meal. Moms no longer have to worry about “What’s for dinner tonight?” With a personal chef service, they can simply reheat a freshly prepared meal without all of the stress of planning, shopping, preparing, and cleaning. And unlike commercially prepared, frozen foods, Schick’s dishes aren’t loaded with sodium and preservatives, so you can rest assured that your family is eating well. Schick’s motto is ‘Simplify Your Life,’ and she hopes that this service will help busy moms to do just that.
