Rostov's Coffee & Tea Co
rostovs
Rostov's Coffee & Tea, founded by Jay Rostov, has been roasting coffee in Richmond, Virginia since 1979. In 1999, Jay's daughter, Tammy Rostov took over the store and gave it the family name. Today, Tammy and her staff continue the tradition of providing coffee and tea both locally and nationally. Under the guidance of our master roasters, all the roasting is done daily on the premises using a Jabez-Burns roaster from the 1930's. Since beans from different countries all have varying roasting temperatures and times, this process requires extensive knowledge and experience.

Akida Japanese
akida
"I've been going to Akida for years, whenever I visit family in VA. When I went this time I found they have a new set menu: appetizer, standard roll, special roll for a great price. The meal was delicious and the fish fresh. As always, a great traditional Japanese atmosphere in this tiny restaurant. Make reservations in advance! Oh, and don't park in the bank parking lot next door. They do really tow Akida patrons." (Tripadvisor)

"Of all the fine dining in the Fan historic district of Richmond, Rowland sits at the top. Not only were our meals expertly prepared, they came with a creative flair that distinguishes them in a class above the normal. Ipanema Cafe
"I read the reviews of this restaurant on here when I was looking for a place to eat during a day trip to Richmond. The only con about the place is that it is a little to tricky to find if you don't know where it is. But it is so worth the hunt!! As soon as we sat down the waiter appeared with glasses of ice water (it was easily 95 degrees outside). He took our orders and the food was prepared promptly and arrived looking as delicious as it tasted. My husband loved his tofu burger as it really tasted like grilled tuna, which he hasn't had for 13 years since we became vegetarians. My TLT was delicious too, but I did ask for the sprouts to be swapped for lettuce and it was no problem. Two of our kids had the eggplant panini and the other had the hummus sandwich and they loved those too..." (Tripadvisor)

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
In the midst of the Great Depression, on January 16, 1936, Virginia's political and business leaders bravely demonstrated their faith in the future and their belief in the value of art by opening the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. The English Renaissance-style headquarters building designed by Peebles and Ferguson Architects of Norfolk barely hinted at the innovative mandate given to the fledgling institution: the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts was to serve as the state's flagship art museum and as the headquarters for an educational network that would bring the best of world art, past and present, to every corner of the commonwealth.

Virginia House
Virginia House was completed a few months before the stock market crash of 1929. Alexander and Virginia Weddell's home, situated on a hillside overlooking the historic James River in Richmond, Virginia, was constructed from the materials of a sixteenth century English manor house. Although Virginia House was a blend of three romantic English Tudor designs, it was for its time a thoroughly modern home complete with seven full baths, central heat, modern kitchen, and commodious closets.

Agecroft Hall
On the rolling banks of the James River stands a remarkable Tudor estate. And by Tudor, we're not simply referring to an architectural style. This manor house was actually built in Lancashire, England in the late 15th Century. For hundreds of years, Agecroft Hall was the distinguished home of England's Langley and Dauntesey families. At the end of the 19th century, however, Agecroft fell into disrepair, and in 1925 it was sold at auction. Hearing of this tremendous opportunity, Richmonder Thomas C. Williams, Jr. purchased the structure, and had it dismantled, crated, and shipped across the Atlantic, and then painstakingly reassembled in a Richmond neighborhood known as Windsor Farms.

James River Park System
James River Park offers opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, jogging, swimming, hiking, rock-climbing, fishing, boating, sunning, bird -watching, and nature study, many within a few blocks of the City’s downtown residential, business and financial district. But the most dramatic feature of the park is the river itself! Pony Pasture Rapids is located on the south bank two miles downstream from the Huguenot Bridge on Riverside Drive. Fishing is excellent at this point and this area is considered to be one of Richmond’s best locations for birdwatching and inner tubing. An easy whitewater canoe run begins here and ends at the visitor center.

Short Pump Town Center
short pump town center
The pump is long gone. But the name remains. According to legend, Nineteenth-century stage coach drivers hailed each other just beyond the fork where Broad Street now crosses Three Chopt Road. A tavern stood there, and its rambling frame structure became a beacon along the well-traveled road. At one time the Short Pump well stood out in the tavern yard, but when a new shade porch was built over it, a mistake was made. The pump’s long handle had to be cut off to work under the new roof, and it then became a short handled pump. In the days when the tavern was a stagecoach stop between Richmond and Charlottesville, drivers would often say, "See you at the Short Pump." Today "Short Pump" has lots of fresh water at the turn of a faucet, but the quaint name lives on! The fountain at Short Pump Plaza has one large "short pump" in the center with eight pumps encircling it on the outer wall as a commemoration to the namesake.

Richmond National Battlefield Park
richmond national battlefield park
Richmond's story is not just the tale of one large Civil War battle, nor even one important campaign. Instead, the park's resources include a naval battle, a key industrial complex, the Confederacy's largest hospital, dozens of miles of elaborate original fortifications, and the evocative spots where determined soldiers stood paces apart and fought with rifles, reaping a staggering human cost.
