Richmond welcomes the Civil War’s sesquicentennial this year with an homage to men’s facial hair. The Valentine Center‘s new show- “Beard Wars” re-creates 23 famous beards from Union and Confederate generals. Members from the RVA Beard League, one of the largest leagues in the country, have sculpted and styled their facial hair to mirror such civil war beard legends as Ulysses Grant, Stonewall Jackson, George Cosby and Ambrose Burnside. Their photographs have been placed side by side with their civil war counterparts as a “face off” between yesterday and today.
The exhibit opens this Thursday, March 26 and runs until Nov 30. Tickets are $10 for adults; seniors, students and children are $8. The Valentine center is open: Tues through Sat 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., Sunday 12 – 5 p.m.
